~ Pregnancy and Massage Therapy ~ 

 

Pre-Natal Massage (after 1st trimester only) ~
While Massage during pregnancy is not intended to replace appropriate medical and prenatal care, there are a number of indications that massage therapy during pregnancy can address a woman's physical and emotional needs.

Benefits of Pre-natal and Post-Natal Massage:
~ Reduction of stress and promotion of sympathetic nervous system sedation

~ Relief from myofascial pain, muscle spasms especially in the back and neck

~ Increase blood and lymph circulation and support physiological process of gestation by supporting the work of the heart; increase cellular respiration; decrease edema

~ Alleviate stress of weight bearing joints and musculo-fascial structures 
   (especially sacro-iliac joint, thoraco-lumbar spine, hips and erector-spinea)

~ Devlops sensory awareness necessary to embody the birth process

~ Facilitates Post-Partum structural realingment of spine and pelvis and 
   rehabiliation of abdominal ans psoas musculature

Post-Natal Masage (after delivery) ~ [60 minutes - $90 / 90 minutes - $120]

 Benefits of Post-Partum Massage:
~ To restore pre-pregnancy physiology

~ To provide support through the physical amd emotional
    stresses of early stages of motherhood   

~ To promote relaxation and structural realignment

~ To facilitate healing

Aromatherapy During Pregnancy:

The following oils blends must be mixed with 2ounces of base oil (ie; Grapeseed Oil, Wheatgerm oil,  Avacado Oil, Vitamin E Oil)

Backache: Bergamot (8 drops), Geranium (3 drops), Sandalwood (4 drops)

Headaches: Lavendar (3 drops). Massage on forehead and temples

Heartburn: Sandalwood, Lemon or Lavender  about 5 drops of any single oil) in a vaporizer

High Blood Pressure: Neroli (5 drops), Lavender (5 drops) and Rose or Ylang Ylang (5 drops)

Legs and Feet: Geranium (7 drops), Lavender (8 drops)

Swelling: Lavender (8 drops), Geranium (7 drops)

Stretch Marks: A gentle massage on stomach and hips will help alleviate stretch marks. Lavender (10 drops) and Neroli Oil (5 drops) mixed with 2 ounces of wheatgerm oil, evening primrose oil or Vitamin E Oill


Oils SAFE to use during Pregnancy:
Bergamot:
                                Analgesic, antiseptic, antidepressant, uplifting 
                                                   and refreshing. 
                                                   Helpful for cystitis during pregnancy

Chamomile:                            Antiseptic, analgesic, anti-inflammatory and
                                                antispasmotic.Soothes pain from muscular aches,
                                                 headaches, toothaches and indigestion.

Cypress (OK after 5 months) : Antiseptic, antispasmodic, astringent and diuretic. 
                                                   Helpful for varicose veins and swollen ankles.

Eucalyptus:                              Antiseptic, antibiotic, analgesic, anti-nflammatory,       
                                                   Helpful for respiratory congestion
                  
Frankincense:                          Antiseptic, astringent, sedative, warming qualities

Geranium (OK after 3 months):Antiseptic, antidepressant, astringent, refreshing, 
                                                    uplifting. Eases aching legs and poor      
                                                     circulation.                        

Grapefruit:                                 Astringent, digestive aid, lymphatic stimulant. 
                                                   Helps with water retention.

Lavender:                                  Always a great choice during pregnancy. 
                                                   Antiseptic, antibiotic, anagelsic, antidepressant, 
                                                   healing and relaxing. Helps soothe aches and pains 
                                                   of pregnancy, 
                                                    encourages cell renewal and helps with fluid retention.
